THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN NUTRITIONAL STATUS AND THE LEARNING ACHIEVEMENT OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHILDREN IN SD INPRES BALANGBODDONG I MAKASSAR
BackgroundThe emphasis of the Indonesian nation development goals is improving the quality of human resources toward the improvement of intelligence and work productivity. Efforts to improve the nutritional status of the community is one effort that is very important because nutritional status,
especially in the group of school children is one factor that determines the quality of human resources. Nutritional status is a condition of the body caused by the balance between nutrient intake and necessity. In school-age children, child malnutrition will result become weak, tired and sick that children are often absent and have difficulty following and understanding the lessons. Nutritional status is one factor that can affect children’s learning achievement.
Research Methodology: This research is an observational study conducted analytic cross sectional design of data collection within the same time which location in SD Inpres BalangBoddong I, Kecamatan Tamalate, Kota Makassar in the third week of December – the second week in January 2014. Population totalling 196 children.Total sample of 66 children who meet the study inclusion ans exclusion criteria.Data analysis using chi-square test.
Research Results: From 45 samples that had normal nutritional status, gained 22 students (33,3%) obtain good learning performance, while 23 students (34,8 %) did not obtain a good learning performance. From 21 samples that research has not normal nutritional status, obtained 7 students (10,6%) obtain good learning performance, while 14 students (21,2%) did not obtain a good learning performance. Based on the results obtained by Chi-square test p=0.236 which indicates p>0,005 so that there is no significant relationship between nutritional status with the level of learning achievement in elementary school students in SD Inpres BalangBoddong I.
Conclusions: There was no significant relationship between nutritional status with level of academic achievement.
